Builder FAQ

Below you can find answers to many frequently asked questions about the EasyLiving Homecm program.

What features are required to earn the EasyLiving Homecm certification?
  • Easy Access: a step-free entrance into the main floor
  • Easy Use: a bedroom, kitchen, wheelchair-friendly bathroom and entertaining area all on the main floor
  • Easy Passage: every interior door on the main floor provides a minimum of 32 inches of clear passage.

That's it!

How much does it cost to become a program member?

Program fees are based on how many certified homes you build each year. See the Builder Application for details.

What sort of marketing support can I expect?

In addition to an EasyLiving Homecm certificate and seal for each
home, we provide home buyer education materials for your use, a member's only Web site, a
newsletter packed with the latest marketing ideas, and national promotion of the program to the public.

Do I have to build from one of your plans?

Absolutely not! While we can provide sample floor plans for your reference, all required features
can be worked into your own custom plans. We'll even show you how!

Can two-story homes qualify for the program?

Yes! Multi-level homes are eligible for EasyLiving Homecm certification because the required features only apply to the story served by the step-free entrance.

I know the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires access in commercial construction. How is EasyLiving Homecm different?

Unlike the ADA, EasyLiving Homecm is a voluntary program, rather
than a law, and covers only a few basic features.
